Up, Up and Away

Yeah, I did it! After postponing my date with the Man of Steel for a number of times over the last 2 weeks, I finally did it. But not without spending 2 minutes trying to park the car properly. Yes, the road to Krypton had one obstacle- finding a car park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the middle of winter. Smanglasses

I had to go around twice before I spotted one. Had to turn around and hoped that it would still be there by the time I get back. And it was still there for me to take. Of course parallel parking isn’t one of my talents. In fact it’s an Achilles heel. So I took the courage, looked at the clock which said I had 2 minutes to park and dash to the moviehouse for the 12pm screening.

And after two minutes of nerve-wracking maneuvering, I did it. I was able to do parallel parking. And like the Man of Steel, I dashed to the Superman_03moviehouse to grab my precious ticket.

The rest is history. Just like Superman Returns.

To Do List

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

My list is growing by the day. Here it goes:

  1. Read Marian Keyes’ "Anybody Out There?" I’ve read 75 pages so far.
  2. Read all 7 books of Kathy Reichs of the Bones Fame before end of the year. I’ve started the very first book but have not really gone very far. I don’t want to read it at night time. Mejo matatakutin kasi akong tao. I still remember getting scared reading X Marks the Spot ng gabi.
  3. Watch A Lot Like Love. I bought this DVD a month ago but have not had the time to watch it.
  4. Print new photos for the huge frame. December?
  5. Read the new book I purchased the other day (and have not received).
  6. Watch Superman Returns (2x a day na lang sya showing so I better hurry). I was supposed to see it last Sunday but I fell asleep and when I drove to the cinema, walang car park so I had to go back home kasi malelate na rin ako.
  7. Watch all the TV shows I have recorded.
  8. Oo nga pala, I still have 6 Archie Comics na di ko pa nababasa.

To top it all, start na ng new term so I’ll have to start reading my course notes and textbook.

I’m not complaining. Bring it on.

Terrorism and the World Cup

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

Just yesterday, almost 200 people died in Mumbai, India as several bombs exploded one after the other during a ten-minute period during rush hour. Hospitals are now unable to cope with hundreds of wounded victims awaiting treatment.

It’s been a little over a year since the London bombings.

When will they stop?

I am no soccer fan. But with the whole world going crazy over the recently concluded World Cup, I had no choice but to give it a second look. The only players I know are of course, Becks, Rooney, Gerrard, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho.

I was supposed to watch the final in a pub near work last Monday with my workmates. But as I was not too well on Sunday night, I woke up late on Monday and had to watch the game from home. I missed the penalty shoot-out as I had to leave just before it started. But I saw the headbutting incident.

It’s been the talk of the soccer world the past few days. What provoked the French captain to headbutt Materazzi? And I just heard from the news that it was something Materazzi said about Zidane’s mother and sister that provoked him. He said he shrugged it off the first time and the second time as well. But on the third instance, he just had to do something as a man. He said he preferred to have been punched in the face than hear something as bad as what was apparently said. Materazzi denied this saying he didn’t say anything that Zidane has not heard from any other opponent.

The fact is, whether or not what Materazzi said has been said by others in the past is irrelevant. Heckling is common in all sporting events. However, if you heckle your opponent’s family or personality, you get no help from the referee. If you heckle the referee, you see the red card.
